Titan Down

Featured in the 2017 Edmonton International Film Festival, Titan Down is a Start the Car Productions original short film. We aspired to create a memorable way to tell the tension filled story of a young soldier ill fitted to the task of war. How would you react if faced with a similar ultimatum as our hero?

We were inspired by writer Brad Bangsboll’s screenplay, and thought it would make a strong narrative and parable for a short film. The story takes place during the Second World War in the North-Western woods in France. Historical accuracy and respect for the subject matter was of utmost importance, so a lot of energy went into the location, period costumes and props.

We wanted to tell the story in a familiar time and setting but have it come across as something of ancient lore.

There is nothing light about the subject matter and it lends itself to the dark without having to be overly complex. This allows an easy entrance point for the audience, giving them more latitude to meditate on the themes of morality Titan Down evokes.

Cast, costumes, props, location, sound, and camera were all characters of equal importance in this film and the hope is the audience will feel completely immersed in the world which all these elements help to create for but a mere 9 minutes…
